In answer to the "how" question:
There are a couple of answers here:
1. I am called by God to be an encourager. "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers." ~ Ephesians 4:29
One way that I fulfill that calling is to minister to Care Givers - those precious people who day in and day out take care or be responsible for someone else. That someone else may be be a child with disabilities or special needs or a loved one who is not physically or mentally (or both!) challenged. They may live in the Care Giver's home or own their own or in a nursing home or other facility. They are often lonely, tired, and frustrated. I come and encourage and love on them for an hour long workshop. You invite them and I laugh and weep with them.
Just like many folks, I wear many hats! Always have, always will! It’s just who I am and how God made me!
2.) I am an author with a number of published books, articles, and plays. I was about seven when a poem I wrote was published in a major magazine. No one thought it important to keep either the poem or the magazine - and I wish I had a copy of both! And, yes, I still write - but I keep copies of everything: business books, how-to’s, recipes, children’s books, & how to write books. And no, I won’t do any ghost writing for anyone, again!!!
I am giving you a free, downloadable Christmas Play, "While Shepherds Wash Their Socks by Night" here.
3.) I have created games since I was first introduced to round pointed scissors, colors, and construction paper. (My mother always called it “destruction” paper…) Oh, the improvement & thrill when I discovered manila file folders! And now, the wonder and magic of technology! I still create games today and love testing them on folks! And yes, I have created a few that NO ONE, including me, could figure out how to play! (But it sounded so great on cut-up pieces of index cards!) I now design cards for different groups of folks: Engaging games for those with autism; memory training games for those with dementia; preschool games that are fun and we sneak in reading readiness and math readiness and the kids have no idea because they are having so much fun; and fun games for family time.
For the games, go here and look for me, Linda L Culbreth (maybe as LindaLCulbreth) I will make a small commission on anything you buy from that site, whether it is mine or others.
4.) Ever the entrepreneur (See the true story below…), I have been asked by so many how they could start a business and even what to start, that I put together a Business Opportunity Virtual Expo with 75+ business opportunities one could start online or offline, but with no MLM’s. You can visit that at https://www.Biz-Op-Virtual-Expo.com.
My first Business Adventure (that I remember) was picking up pecans from our backyard. Mother and grandmother had all they wanted in their freezers.
“Yes, you can have the rest but you have to pick them up yourself." Then mother asked “what are you going to do with them?”
“Sell them,” I answered.
“To whom?” She asked.
"Grandmother's friends from church at her class meeting."
"Okay."
"Mama, how much are pecans over at the farmer's market?"
"45 cents a pound."
"Thank you."
So the little girl business person, me, picked up pecans and bagged them in small brown bags.
I knew there was a Sunday school class meeting in a few days at grandmother's house.
I sold all my pecans. I don't think there was a single good pecan underneath any of the pecan trees!
And I sold them all $0.45 a pound or two pounds for a dollar! I got smiles and only $1 bills! FYI, I was too small to know how many pounds were in my brown bags and I had no idea 2 lb for a dollar cost more than $0.45 a pound! Who knows? Grandmother's friends may have actually ended up with four pounds for a dollar!
Regardless, I was hooked!
Over the years, I've owned several businesses. I have made money. I have lost money. (It is far better to make it!) I have learned many of my strengths and more weaknesses than I care to admit.
I've also worked for others in the corporate world. Hands down, I'm much happier working for myself regardless of my attire - a navy blue business suit or if I'm wearing that wooden shavings and dust covered shorts and t-shirts from my woodshop and piano rebuilding shop.
So, in Biz-Op-Virtual-Expo.com, I share with you some "stuff" I wish I had learned back "when" and that I didn't learn even in pursuing a degree in business.
Drink it all in and know you are too big and simply not cute enough anymore to sell pecans $0.45 a pound or two pounds for a dollar!
