Unknown Confederate Soldier - 4
Tuesday, August 12, 1862 Daylight is almost gone. Lord, I was sent today after suppertime to go get the camel. I believe some of the the men learned their left from their right, maybe. They were practicing how to load their musket rifles and use their bayonets yesterday and today. We learned a little more about the battle over at Corinth. It was awful. The Confederates were forced to retreat east. I thank You, Lord for this creek. It's a place to get a cool drink and sit on this log and write a little in this little bit of fast fading light. It's just a short ways to Hope Church and my little cabin. I'll get to sleep in my own bed tonight one last time and hopefully retrieve Old Douglas day after tomorrow. I see the beauty of this place and the thick woods between here and my little cabin with joy and appreciation. Where is the smoke coming home that curling up in the sky? It looks like chimney smoke - but my cabin's the only place around. Be blessed in The Name above every name, Jesus! I know I am! Linda L Culbreth
