A Fundraising-Across-State-Lines-Lesson from Scruffy

   Welcome to this episode of Fundraising for Church Groups and Christian Schools. Last night there was a lesson for all fundraisers for non-profit organizations taught by our little rescue dog. His name is Scruffy and he's appropriately named.  
   Scruffy was laying on my lap sound asleep, minding his own business. He was doing nothing but maybe occasionally making that little snore -  after all he's just a little scruffy looking rescue chihuahua.
   Suddenly my husband decided he would sneak up on him. Scruffy was startled and immediately woke up in full attack mode. Had Gary not moved as fast as he moved, he would have been nursing a number of wounds on his face and nose and lips and cheeks today and he would have totally provoked the attack!
   Your big question right now? How in the world does this relate to fundraising for church groups and Christian schools?
   If you are using that “Donate Now” button on your website, that crowdfunding event, that online auction when you're sending out newsletters across state lines either by mail or by email, or using any social media platform, you are sneaking up on state governments and they may wake up in full attack mode!  Anything that you're doing that crosses any state lines, including ads or announcements via radio, tv, magazines, and newspapers is like throwing shark bait into the waters where sharks actually live.
   Are those things are wrong? Not in themselves but when they cross any state line it triggers all sorts of ugly regulations and laws in that other state(s). I have a little short video that I want to play. I made it some time back but have never published it until now. I call it “Shark Bait” but I named in Cross State Lines. Listen to it very carefully because what it says is very valid and very true in your fundraising.

Let’s pray. "Father, I came with thanksgiving in my heart for eyes to see the beautiful spring here. It seemed like a really long winter to me. And I thank You for Scruffy and that Gary didn’t chewed by him. Help us to learn the regulations and teach us ways to raise funds without violating them. In Jesus’ Name. Amen."
