Bible Study for Christian Women and Pastors Wives ~ I Am A Pearl of Great Price, Part 1
My maternal grandmother died in 1975. I do not remember the minister's name who officiated at her services, but I will never forget the passage of Scripture he used. It was Malachi 3:17 " And they shall be Mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up My jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him." The memory lingers in my mind as he described an exquisite crown with beautiful pearls and how my grandmother was one of those pearls. Grandmother, most of the time, was very "sot in her ways," as she would say, but she did love The Lord. She read her Bible as long as her eyesight would allow. Then she would hold it. She went to Sunday school and church faithfully as her health would permit. She would put on one of her two pill box hats and wear her gloves - both to match one of her few "Sunday-go-meeting" dresses. She honestly didn't have a very big wardrobe at all. She tithed that very tiny social security check faithfully. And, she absolutely put up with no nonsense when you sat by her in church. Although she often entertained the demons of worry and fear, she made it through those battles with her faith in God. Grandmother, I do believe the minister was right when he selected Malachi 3:17 for your memorial services. I know you were never famous, never had a fortune in the world's eyes, but you were always faithful to God, and thus, truly were one of His jewels! Be blessed in The Name above every name, Jesus! I know I am! Linda L Culbreth
