Bible Study for Christian Women and Pastors Wives ~ I Am A Pearl of Great Price, Part 3
When I was looking up the mention of pearl or pearls in The Bible, I came across one mention I am pretty certain I have never heard preached or taught. It is from Job 28:18 "No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies." As I begin to pray over this verse and ask God what He meant when He instructed it to be written, I begin to see this chapter in three parts. The first part is about all the riches of the earth, the sea, and the sky that man has found - and no doubt the riches he has not found even to this day. The second part is found in verse 12 and 13: "But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living." Job mentions all these valuable items of riches; he even mentions the coral and the pearls of the sea. You cannot walk into any store anywhere and buy a box of wisdom. Have you ever seen a bin of understanding? Ever see either advertised in the weekly specials? Heard a radio blurb about "a special offer - buy wisdom, get understanding free?" Do we need to make mention of Matthew 13:45-46? "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it." Is it possible that wisdom and understanding may be even more valuable than that one pearl of a great price we talked about yesterday? The third part of Job 28 is found in verses 23-28. "God understandeth the way thereof, and He knoweth the place thereof. For He looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven; To make the weight for the winds; and He weigheth the waters by measure. When He made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: Then did He see it, and declare it; He prepared it, yea, and searched it out. And unto man He said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding." (Emphasis is mine.) Can I believe that because I do fear The Lord and because I have departed from evil, then I possess riches far greater than pearls, silver, gold, and other riches? Tomorrow, we will address something we can do with ... Be blessed in The Name above every name, Jesus! I know I am! Linda L Culbreth
