Bible Study for Christian Women and Pastors Wives ~ I Am Able to Hear
Part 3 - In order to hear, you have to be obedient It's one thing to hear something and it's all together a different matter of obeying. I spent most of this winter in what I thought was a warmer climate. One rather cold winter day, I took my seven pound chihuahua, Big Dawg, outside. He ran off into the field behind the log house. I know he heard me call his name and command him to come to me. He turned and looked at me and continued charging ahead. What he did not see through the tall grass, that I did, was that a herd of fifteen deer were making their way across the field, five at a time. The first group raced on into the woods, leaving a sentry guard ready and able to attack anything that posed a danger. I knew if he continued, he would be stomped to death. I knew if I went after him, both of us would be stomped. When he saw them, he froze and watched, even though he was trembling. We both watched the three groups of does, and then a very handsome buck being the caboose, make their way into the safety of the woods. I breathed a sigh of relief and called Big Dawg to come to me. This time, he willingly came. Had he obeyed the first time, he would have had a better and safer viewpoint in my arms on the back porch. As I look and think about these verses, I can't help but wonder how many times I have put myself in danger because I was not willing and obedient. Isaiah 50:5 "The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back." Exodus 15:26 "... If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee." Psalm 78:1 "Give ear, O My people, to My law: incline your ears to the words of My mouth." Proverbs 2:2 "...so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;" Proverbs 4:20 "My son, attend to My words; incline thine ear unto My sayings." Proverbs 5:1 "My son, attend unto My wisdom, and bow thine ear to My understanding..." Jeremiah 7:24 "But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward." Prayer: "Lord, today I want to go forward and not backward. I simply want to obey." Be blessed in The Name above every name, Jesus! I know I am! Linda L. Culbreth
