Bible Study for Christian Women and Pastors Wives - I am Looking to God, Part 2 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2 In "The Karate Kid," the student, "Daniel-son" gave all kinds of reasons why he couldn't do what he needed to do to his teacher, Mr. Miyagi. Mr. Miyagi's answer was simple and very direct: "Your focus need more focus." So, Daniel ("Daniel-son") spends time learning to focus as he practices every move and every step and every karate technique Mr. Miyagi taught him. At the end of the movie, it is very obvious that indeed, "Daniel-son" learned the important and irreplaceable ingredient of focusing. Hebrews 12:2 begins with these words: "Looking unto Jesus The Author and Finisher of our faith." Elsewhere in The Bible, we are told that God gives everyone a measure of faith. Romans 12:3 "For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." With that measure of faith, He also gives us free choice to live by that faith or not. Romans 1:17 "For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith." Faith acts much like our muscles. We can use those muscles and thy become stronger, or we can look to Jesus day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment, regardless of what others do, and we can grow in our focus on The Lord. We can spend our days looking to man with his ideologies, intelligentsia, and devices, all of which is certain to fail us or we can look until Jesus. Psalms 146:3 "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help." Psalms 20:7 "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God." There is really only that choice: To focus on Him or to allow everything else to draw our focus away from Him. You simply cannot look to one without turning away from the other.
