Bible Study for Ministry, Christian Women, and The Pastor's Wife ~ I Am Am Praying to Change the Course, Part 2
     There's a story in the Old Testament that few people even know is there. It's in 2 Samuel 14. David has been king for a while and is at odds with his son, Absalom. One David's trusted advisers, Joab, perceived that David's heart was longing for this son, even though he had banished him. (verse 1) It amazes me how someone else can see things through cleans glasses when those involved see through fogged-up glasses.
     Joab sent for a wise wise woman from a place called Tekoab. I don't believe her name was ever given, but Joab wanted her to act the part of mourner who had last her husband, and her two sons fought and one had died from the fight, and now the people around her wanted her to give up this other son so he could be killed for killing his brother.
     She acts the part very well and King David promises that the guilty son would not be harmed. And then, she wants one more word with the king. Her conversation is found in 2 Samuel 14:14. "We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. And God does not take away life, but devises means so that he who is banished may not be an utter outcast from Him." (AMP.) 
     The KJV uses slightly different wording. "14 For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him."
 Jesus Christ came to change the course for our lives. We were headed for eternal banishment from the presence of God because of sin. But, Jesus was The Means - He bridged the gulf we could not. John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
