Bible Study for Ministry, Christian Women, and The Pastor's Wife ~ I Am Resting, Part 1
Mark 6:31 "And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat." Over the last few days, a number of folks have mentioned how tired they were. After all, 'tis the season for business, right? Yes, 'tis the season for Christmas programs, social endeavors and parties, shopping, decorating, more company, etc., etc., etc.. Come the first of the year, what will these same people use for being so tired? God knew we needed rest. Restorative rest. Recharging rest. Re-energizing rest. He even set the pattern, even though He was not tired, and recorded it in His Love Letter to us. Genesis 2:2 "And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made." Perhaps you may clear your table, only to find it is quickly filled up again with other things. You may also find a way to clear your calendar and turn around and find even more written on that tiny, empty spot. Ever been too tired to sleep? Ever needed a nap just so you could sleep at night? I heard one preacher say from the pulpit: "Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do, is take a nap." And he was right. Ever noticed when you are tired, really tired, the enemy attacks in all sorts of ways? Ever noticed when you are really tired that you make decisions you regret later? It could even be so simple as to making the wrong lane change while driving that could have major impact for many for a very long time! The various law enforcement agencies will confirm that driving tired is equivalent to driving drunk! Maybe we should dare believe that God was right! Come apart and rest. Be blessed in The Name above every name, Jesus! I know I am! Linda L Culbreth
