Bible Study for Ministry, Christian Women, and The Pastor's Wife ~ I Am Resting, Part 3
Mark 6:31 "And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat." We certainly know about our bodies needing rest. Even the critter (a panda) pictured above understands the need for rest. But, do we stop and consider the rest of what makes us - us? You know, our spirit, mind, will, emotions? Consider these passages from the New Testament: 2 Corinthians 2: 12-13 "Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord, 13 I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia." 2 Corinthians 7:5 "For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears. Sounds to me like Paul was ironing with a cold iron all day long and day after day. Ever had that feeling? Ever seem like there was trouble on every side and fear and the battle for your mind was intense? Somewhere he also "got it" ~ that God's grace was sufficient for him. 2 Corinthians 12:9 "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." There is a sweet invitation to you and me from 2 Thessalonians 1:7. "And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels." Come, rest in Jesus with us! Be blessed in The Name above every name, Jesus! I know I am! Linda L Culbreth
